In order for your system to work properly, you need to start by installing the cables that make up the charging system. The wires, which will be black and red in color, run between the alternator and the batteries. These wires are put in such a way that they create a current in the event there’s a power overload, and then send that current to the battery. These cables will be attached to the alternator, so that when they’re removed from the boat, they’ll be able to be easily removed from the alternator.

After these cables have been installed, then you need to hook up the electrical system that’s created the charging connection on the battery. Since your battery is creating a DC current, then your electrical system has to be configured to match that. You’ll find that this can be done pretty easily, using a potentiometer – a device that determines the resistance that exists in any given electrical circuit. You can then set the electrical connections to match the electrical system that was put in place to start the cranking motor.
